DormDrop started as a response to a problem Joel saw every semester in his own building. It is still that — nothing more, nothing less.
Non-commercial student pilot. DormDrop is operated by Joel Kwasi Asare-Apawu (natural person), Prague. It does not process payments, does not mediate transactions, and is not a party to any agreement between users. All exchanges are arranged directly between students. The operator does not verify listings or guarantee the accuracy of user-provided information.
“I watched students throw away perfectly good furniture every semester. I knew there had to be a better way.”
Every semester at Kolej Větrník and Hvězda, students move out and leave behind furniture, textbooks, kitchen equipment, and everyday essentials that still work perfectly well. Most ends up in corridors or bins. Meanwhile, students moving in buy the same things from scratch at full price.
DormDrop is a simple attempt to fix that. A free platform where a student leaving can list what they no longer need, and a student arriving can find it — within the same building, from someone they can actually meet.
It is not a startup. It is not a commercial product. It is a student initiative, built by one person in their spare time, for the community they live in.
Every item that finds a new home is one less item thrown away. That is the whole idea.
Every person on DormDrop is a verified Charles University student. You are dealing with neighbours, not strangers.
Free to join, free to browse, free to list. No subscriptions, no commissions, no hidden costs.
DormDrop is currently a non-commercial student pilot, operated by Joel Kwasi Asare-Apawu as a private individual (natural person). It is not a registered company.
The platform is currently piloting at Kolej Větrník and Kolej Hvězda, Charles University Prague. We are in active discussions with the university about a formal partnership.
DormDrop is in the process of formal business registration (OSVC or s.r.o.). This page will be updated when that is complete.
